Abstract

This paper seeks to examine the planning of resource utilization for the construction industry. It commences with a definition of resource planning and then goes on to consider the reasons for undertaking it and its importance in achieving satisfactory construction programmes and for the health of the economy as a whole. Some examples are given of the consequences offailure to plan and also indications of instances where resource planning has helped. The methods of planning are then described including the methods which may be adopted when available data is slight. Sources of data are given in a full list of references. Finally it is concluded that, although there are difficulties in resource planning, it is both desirable and possible.
