Abstract
Research needs to be applied in practice, yet in the building sector this is difficult to attain, if only because of cultural and functional differences between researchers and practitioners. A survey of Building Centres shows that they operate primarily in the information field and that they possess good contacts with professionals and members of the public. Networking with them could improve researchers' access to information users.
