Abstract
Studies have examined the impact of digital technology adoption on the construction industry. However, there has been limited empirical consideration of the types and consequences of intra-organisational change due to digitalisation. There are different ways in which organisational change management studies can be categorised, including, for example, the process of change and the content of change. A review of general change management literature shows that studies on organisation change broadly have focused on the reasons for change and the impact of the organisational change. This paper considers that digital innovation is placed as a key driver for the reason for organisation change. While anecdotal evidence and a few empirical studies exist that address the impact of digital innovation-driven intra-organisation change, such discussions tend to be uni-dimensional and lack the use of specific theoretical frameworks. This study takes a multi-dimensional perspective in exploring the digital-driven intra-organisation change using organisational change theory. The study is based on a survey methodology using structured interviews. It is considered that this contributes to the wider understanding of the implications of digital technology innovation on projects and organisations.
