Abstract

Sustainable Procurement (SP) has emerged as a better solution for issues of conventional procurement. The Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is an innovative procurement system that facilitates easy BIM adoption. It is evident that the establishment of innovative procurement systems such as BIM-based IPD is essential to adopt SP successfully. This study aims to investigate the suitability of sustainable BIM-based IPD for the construction industry. 'Concurrent Triangulation Mixed Method' was adopted by steering a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews, where statistical and content analyses were used to analyse collected data respectively. Non-probability sampling was used as a sampling technique for both surveys and sample sizes were 125 for questionnaire survey and 10 for semi-structured interviews. 85% response rate was achieved for the questionnaire survey. Accordingly, 96% of BIM-based IPD principles can be contributed to achieving SP, which recommend the suitability of sustainable BIM-based IPD for the construction industry. However, the limitations of the proposed sustainable BIM-based IPD system can be diminished the expected benefits. Henceforth, appropriate strategies for successful implementation of the proposed system were identified to achieve the expected benefits.
