Abstract

Customer service is a central element that should draw together materials supply logistics, therefore, the performance of a materials supply chain should be assessed in terms of contribution to improved customer service. Such an assessment should highlight gaps between theory and practice, and consequently point to better approaches for addressing problems in materials supply chains. The paper presents a methodology for evaluating contributions of logistics elements to improved customer service in the supply of construction materials using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Evaluations by five major UK suppliers of the AHP model’s ability to assess contributions of logistics elements to improvements in the supply of construction materials have been presented.
